Scan & Drill
Sorted.
At ConcreteX, we don’t just scan — we can organise the entire process from scanning through to drilling. Once we’ve scanned and cleared the area, we coordinate with our trusted concrete cutting partners to get clean, precise core holes drilled exactly where you need them.
This means one point of contact, no delays chasing separate trades, and the confidence that every hole is drilled in a safe, scanned location — saving our clients time, money and risk on site.
Always Scan Before You Drill
Every drilling job we coordinate is preceded by a ConcreteX GPR concrete scan of the target area. This ensures no reinforcement, post-tension cables, conduits or other embedded objects are struck during drilling — protecting the structure, the workers, and the project programme.
Our “scan-first” approach is not optional — it’s the standard we hold ourselves and our partners to on every job, regardless of size.
Learn About Our Scanning →Service Penetrations & Fitouts
The most common reason our clients need core-drilling is to create new service penetrations through concrete slabs and walls — for plumbing pipes, hydraulic services, electrical conduits, mechanical ducts and drainage.
This is especially common during fitouts, refurbishments and new tenancy installations in commercial buildings and shopping centres, where trades need to penetrate existing slabs to connect new services to the floors below.
- New plumbing and hydraulic service penetrations
- Electrical conduit and data service penetrations
- Mechanical and HVAC duct openings
- Retail fitouts and shopping centre tenancy works
- Commercial building refurbishments
- Any diameter — from small core holes to large openings
Concrete Core Sampling
Core-drilling is also the method used to extract concrete core samples from an existing structure for laboratory testing. Cores are extracted at targeted locations — after GPR scanning to confirm safe positions — and sent to a NATA-accredited laboratory for compressive strength, carbonation and other property testing.
This is one of ConcreteX’s primary services and forms a key part of our structural investigation offering — giving engineers and owners definitive, certified data on the concrete properties of their structure.
- Core extraction for compressive strength testing (MPa)
- Carbonation depth and chloride content testing
- Petrographic and water-cement ratio analysis
- GPR scan prior to every core location
- Cores labelled, photographed and dispatched promptly
- NATA-accredited certified test reports provided
Our Process
You Contact ConcreteX
Tell us what you need — number of holes, approximate locations, slab thickness if known, and access requirements. We’ll provide a fast, clear quote covering both scanning and drilling.
We Scan the Area
Before any drilling begins, our team attends site and conducts a full GPR scan of the target zone. All reinforcement, PT cables and conduits are located and marked on the surface.
Safe Positions Confirmed
We identify and mark clear, safe positions for every core hole — avoiding all embedded objects. You have full visibility of exactly where drilling will occur before it starts.
Drilling is Coordinated
We coordinate our trusted concrete drilling partners to attend site and drill the confirmed locations. Clean, accurate core holes to the required diameter and depth.
Cores Retained (If Required)
If core sampling is required, extracted cores are labelled, photographed and retained for dispatch to our NATA-accredited laboratory for testing.
Report Delivered
A structured report documenting the scan findings, hole locations and any test results is provided — typically within 24 hours of the completed works.
Who Needs
Core-Drilling?
Fitout & Refurbishment Contractors
Builders and contractors working on commercial fitouts, office refurbishments and retail tenancy installations who need service penetrations through existing slabs and walls to connect new hydraulic, electrical and mechanical services.
Shopping Centre & Commercial Projects
New store fitouts in shopping centres regularly require multiple core holes through reinforced slabs. We handle the scan and organise the drill — one call covers both, keeping your programme on track.
Structural Engineers & Building Consultants
Engineers requiring concrete core samples for compressive strength, carbonation or chloride testing to assess structural condition, support remedial design or satisfy compliance requirements.
Remedial Builders & Asset Owners
Remedial contractors and facility managers needing core extraction as part of a broader structural investigation or concrete condition assessment programme.
